Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) Introduces new membership categories

MONTREAL, Monday, March 1st, 2021 – The Board has approved a motion to modify the membership categories.

New membership category effective immediately:

BPOC MEMBERSHIP INCORPORATED INTO FREE INDIGENOUS MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY

Two-year free membership for new members who identify as Black or People of Colour. Note that there is already a two-year free membership for Indigenous creators. Both will be merged into a single category: a two-year free membership category for new BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) members.

New membership categories that come into effect with the launch of DOC’s new site:

DOC EMERITUS

For those who have been a paid member of DOC for at least the last 10 years but are no longer actively creating documentaries. This reduced rate does not include any professional benefits including reduced insurance rates, discounts on services, or other production-related discounts. It does include regular e-blasts, newsletters, invites to DOC events, and access to the List-Serv.

Rate: $65 Annual Fee + provincial sales tax

DOC SUPPORTER

Those who want to support DOC’s mandate and activities on a yearly basis.

DOC Supporters include broadcasters, public producers, distributors, funding agencies, some organizations and businesses as well as individuals. A charitable receipt will be issued if requested.

Organizational Rate: National agencies, corporations, groups, businesses, organizations (up to 8 DOC memberships included) suggested Donation – $1,500 minimum.
Note: Organizations, like the NFB, would be encouraged to pay per region, as they do presently, for their memberships.

Individual Rate: Individual supporter suggested Donation – $250 minimum

Supporter benefits include regular e-blasts, newsletters, and invites to all DOC events. This category does not include access to member list-serv and production benefits.

With the launch of the new site, DOC will begin charging provincial sales tax rather than HST on all membership categories

DOC PRO $225 Annual Fee + provincial sales tax

For members residing in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

DOC PRO REMOTE $150 Annual Fee + provincial sales tax

For members residing 50km or more outside of Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

DOC START-UP $125 Annual Fee + provincial sales tax

Emerging documentary makers who have 1) graduated from post-secondary education in the past two years and/or 2) have incorporated their production companies within two years of joining DOC and/or 3) are directing or producing their first non-student (regardless of length) are eligible for this category. Please note that you do not qualify as a start-up if you have a producer or director credit in a feature length documentary film.

DOC ARRQ/AMPIA Membership $133 + provincial sales tax

Receive all the benefits of a DOC Pro Membership with a discount if you are currently a member of Association des réalisateurs et réalisatrices du Québec or Alberta Media Production Industries Association.

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP $65 Annual Fee + provincial sales tax

All membership payments are eligible for a 25% discount if you refer a new member to the Organization

DOC PRODUCTION COMPANY: $850 Annual Fee + provincial sales tax

Includes 8 memberships from the same company. Previously, this category was called DOC Organizational.
