On October 29, the CMF invited DOC to participate in a consultation regarding proposed changes to its Linear Program design. The proposals reflect an intention to shift CMF’s funding model towards a more market-driven approach, and, in DOC’s view, they raise significant risks for the documentary sector. DOC is particularly concerned that the already vulnerable POV genre could be further endangered, and that the distinction between documentary and reality/lifestyle programming could be dangerously eroded. On November 30, DOC submitted a formal response, expressing these concerns and inviting further dialogue to explore constructive and equitable measures to help the CMF deliver on its mandate.
