The Documentary Organization of Canada represents over 1,000 filmmakers from coast to coast, many of whom identify as Indigenous. In addition to advocating for an equitable and sustainable industry, DOC also has a mandate to center equity within all our work including the well-being of our members. Indigenous filmmakers have been clear about how Canada’s historic and ongoing genocidal policies continues to negatively impact their well being and their ability to create. On this first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, DOC has contacted every Member of Parliament urging them to do everything possible to take immediate action on the remaining 81 Calls to Action by the Truth & Reconciliation Commission. Anyone who wishes to send a letter to their MP can find a downloadable Word document below as well as a list of every confirmed MP as of September 30th 2021.
