The Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) is a national not for profit representing documentary creators across the country. DOC is dedicated to promoting, supporting and developing the art form of documentary filmmaking within an equitable and sustainable sector.
DOC is in the planning stages of a symposium to connect academics and filmmakers, with the goal of sparking new documentary film projects based on academic research.
This symposium will span two days. On the first day, academics and filmmakers will present their work. The second day will consist of one-on-one meetings between participating academics and filmmakers.
By the end of the two-day symposium, DOC hopes to have facilitated new collaborations that we can support in future SSHRC Connection grant for documentary film projects.
DOC is opening this call for submissions of interest in order to select six academics for our symposium. DOC will also be selecting six documentary filmmakers. On February 1st, DOC will be submitting a proposal to SSHRC to finance this event that will take place in late Spring / early Summer 2024.
