The Media Concierge

Earlier this summer Festival Concierge reached out to film festival programmers and asked them if they would be interested in receiving information about DOC-member projects that meet their submission criteria.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Festival programmers want to know what DOC members are up to!

So we’ve developed the Festival Concierge Catalogue to do just that!

The Festival Concierge Catalogue is a dynamic listing of DOC-member projects, tailored and shared directly with senior festival programmers around the world.

The Festival Concierge Catalogue :

  • enables DOC to forge alliances with domestic and international festivals on members’ behalf,

  • makes it even easier for festival programmers to discover and screen DOC members’ films, and

  • strengthens the Canadian documentary brand abroad by becoming the go-to resource for festival programmers.

Each Catalogue film listing includes:

  • basic production information (title, director, producer, country of production, year of production, running time);
  • a 100-word synopsis;
  • one film still;
  • thematic tags (mental health & addiction, gender & sexuality, etc.);
  • the film's premiere status and screening history;
  • links to the film's website and trailer (where applicable);
  • and a link to a password-protected digital screener.

Tokyo Idols Catalogue Listing

Festival Concierge will create custom-tailored versions of the Catalogue for festivals around the world, curated in each case to ensure that the right films are presented to the right programmers. Each unique version of the Catalogue will take into account factors like premiere requirements and, where applicable, a festival’s thematic focus. For example, the versions of the Catalogue sent to environmental or human rights-focused festivals would only include productions relevant to those themes.

When a festival programmer sees a title in the catalogue that they wish to solicit, they will be able to contact the relevant filmmaker, via DOC, to request that the film be formally submitted.

Since launching the Catalogue in October, we’ve received over 70 submissions and have had enthusiastic responses from programmers at IDFA, CPH:DOX, Visions du Réel, Sheffield Doc/Fest, and more. In order to maintain this momentum and to ensure the Catalogue continues to serve as avenue of discovery for festival programmers, we’re particularly looking for 2017 productions, including works in progress. In addition, if your project has been invited to screen at the 2017 editions of Hot Docs or DOXA, we would especially love to see it included.

To have your project listed in the catalogue, simply click here to complete the online submission form or contact Festival Concierge Manager Julian Carrington to let him know that you’re interested in participating. It's free for DOC members!
